The long journey from Egypt to the land of Canaan lasted forty years, and the generation that was brought by God's power out of Egypt died in the wilderness. The new generation stood on the threshold of the Promised Land where Moses spoke

words of comfort, warning and encouragement. These great declarations of God's purpose with his people have been preserved in the fifth book of the Bible, Deuteronomy.

The generation that is now waiting to enter the Kingdom when the Lord Jesus returns can learn much from Moses' exhortion. Rather than a simple re-telling of the laws and commandments given on Mount Sinai, Moses' words emphasise the underlying principles - principles that remain true for believers in the prophet like Moses who was raised up to lead God's people in the way of Life. Moses' message was so important that Jesus Christ often quoted it directly during his ministry, and especially when he was combating strong temptations. It is a message about the holiness of God and the relationship He seeks with men and women of Faith.
