The Gospel of Matthew is structured in a remarkable way. Old Testament events provide the framework, and the experiences of Israel can be traced throughout the life of the Lord Jesus. If the Old Testament presents the old Israel it is Matthew who reveals the new.

This structure enlightens, and the teaching of the beloved Son shows how we should live to become well-pleasing, and ultimately be part of the new Israel.
