Marriage is as old as human history. Jesus himself said: "from the beginning of creation, God made them male and females. For this reason a man shall leave his fatehr and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh.

When God created man and woman, He told htem: "be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it." So marriage is the basic building block of society, and the means by which it is perpetualted. From marriages grow families and nations and peoples, to "fill the earth".
