Peace and safety . . . This was the nt theme which we heard during 1987. In the Middle East peace for Israel is on the horizon, with Russia wanting to establish diplomatic relations with Israel. Gorbachev recently told Syria that Israel had the right to existence and that war had failed miserably to achieve anything.

So "peace" is on the lip of many.
