"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth" - Matthew 5v5
Nineteen hundred years ago the Jewish people were in a state of great expectancy. The prophetic Scriptures had led them to believe that the time had arrived when their Messiah should appear. They looked for a graet military leader who would snap the fetters of Rome and lead the nation to victory and glory.
How disappointed the people were when the Messiah ultimately manifested himself. Instead of the Lionof the tribe of Judah, they saw the "Lamb of God" about to offer himself for the sins of the world. They saw a humble carpenter, preaching a policy of non resistance to evil. Instead of burning words of eloquence, he gave the Sermon on the Mount.
